What is Upsari?
Upsari is an eco-conscious, ethical labour source, social enterprise.
Our business model involves a socially responsible supply chain, with economic, environmental and occupational benefits provided to the individuals responsible for producing our garments and products. We are committed to improving the lives of those involved in the production process.
We pursue the use of organic materials, as well as Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and Fair Trade Certification.
Who is our founder?
Vinita Srivastava founded Upsari in 2015 after a successful career in journalism, publishing and education. She describes her editorial work in fashion as accidental, (or serendipitous): Through a series of chance meetings, she ended up working with the best in New York City's fashion publishing industry, including a four-year stint at the New York Times Style Magazine with time also spent at O, the Oprah Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Men’s Vogue, Spin, Vibe and Savoy. If her approach is a little philosophical, it’s because she worked as a digital media professor after her heady New York publishing days and just before she jumped into her full time independent ventures. She’s a little bit of an archivist: searching for stories about culture and clothing and for the meaning and importance behind what we wear.
Upsari is a family affair
We're a lean company with the whole family pitching in. Vinita's partner is a marketing and brand expert who has helped to propel the brand into fruition. They've taken Upsari - and the whole family with them - on an Indian road trip and wrote about it on the family blog: Taking the Kids. And the whole community pitches in on modelling days!

Vinita co founded Global360, a storytelling and brand workshop for social enterprises.
She is currently the social media manager for Fashion Takes Action and the editorial strategist for New Canadian Media.
